Party At The Met Gala

Gala
The First Monday in May, while some only recognize it as a day closer to the summer season the Fashion world recognizes it as one of the biggest most exclusive celebrations of style. The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. Each year’s event has a theme that celebrates the exhibition and therefore sets the tone for the formal dress of the night.  This isn’t just your average Hollywood-driven event, the looks on the gold carpet are not your typical Oscar-Worthy ball gowns and black tuxes. If there ever was any night to take a fashion risk it’s the night at the MET.
The arrivals is where the fun kicks in, each guest is expected to choose their outfit to match the theme of the exhibit. It really gives celebrities and their stylists a chance to think outside of the box and create a look that could not be imitated. Usually, this would be the best time to wear something one would not typically don any other time.  This year’s theme was “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In Between.” Kawakubo is the designer of Comme des Garçons, a Tokyo based fashion line known for its bright and rich colors, elongated trains, wild prints, usage of oversized florals and shapes and its infusing of masculine tailored looks with feminine details. kawakubo, herself is known to be a trailblazer in the world of Avant-Garde (Over The Top Fashion) and never shyed away from her love of geometrical silhouettes, unusual fabric choices and bursts of colors.
This night of grandeur served Looks that not only matched the theme perfectly but gave inspirational looks for the season to come. From oversized dresses to barely there jumpsuits the A-listers of the night came together to honor the tradition of fashion that is the MET GALA.
Here are the looks that stole the camera lens and some that simply missed the memo, either way these fashions will certainly leave a lasting impression for seasons to come.
